2011 AzLA Annual Conference

November 28, 2011 through November 30, 2011

The Westin La Paloma
3800 East Sunrise Drive
Tucson, AZ 85718

Conference Theme

Imagine the Future
What does the future of libraries hold?  Will we download books to our phones, net books, or project them into 3-D images from an electronic piece of jewelry? Will libraries continue to exist as places where people gather? Libraries have always adapted to the emerging needs of our communities: converting card catalogs to online databases, creating library websites, and offering Internet access as a basic service. We keep current with the latest formats, through phonograph records, paperbacks, comics, VHS, DVDs, playaways and downloadable books. If we have learned anything, we know that the future will bring challenges and change. What will those be? The 2011 AzLA Conference invites you to imagine the future of possibilities.

Conference Charity

The 2011 AzLA Conference Charity is The Louise A. Stephens Endowed Scholarship Fund. The scholarship provides annual support to students enrolled in the University of Arizona’s School of Information Resources and Library Science M.A. program.

Conference attendees can donate to the scholarship by participating in a raffle during the conference. Multiple prizes will be offered. Purchase raffle tickets at the AzLA booth in the exhibit hall ($2 each or 3 for $5). Drawings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday during the last no-conflict time in the conference schedule. A list of raffle winners will be posted at the AzLA booth each day. Participants must be present to win. Conference attendees can also donate by cash or check.

Registration

On-site registration by check or cash for the main conference is available with an additional $25 fee. Please note that there is no on-site registration for Preconference Programs.

Volunteer at the Conference
Planning on attending the 2011 AzLA Annual Conference?  Would you be willing to volunteer an hour (or more) at the AzLA registration desk or the AzLA Membership booth?

Volunteers are needed each day of the regular conference - Tuesday, November 29th and Wednesday, November 30th.  This is a great opportunity to create career connections and serve your professional organization.

AzLA Members who are interested in volunteering, please contact Theresa Stanley at tcstanley@pima.edu.  If you are volunteering for a particular area, please include that in the email.

Students - if you're currently enrolled in a library school program and are a current AzLA member, volunteer for 3 hours and attend the conference for free!  Fill out the Student Volunteer application and send it to Theresa Stanley at tcstanley@pima.edu by September 30th for consideration.

Scholarships
AzLA Scholarships
We will be awarding 5 scholarships that cover the full conference registration fee.  Recipients must be current AzLA members and agree to write an article about the conference for the AzLA newsletter.  The deadline to apply for a 2011 Conference scholarship has passed.
