Managing Government Records in Any Format: Records of Enduring Value, Public Records Requests and Records Management


This training will cover the following areas: 


1.  Discussion of Public Records in Arizona, including Public Records Requests.  This section will be taught by Kathryn Marquoit, Assistant Ombudsman for Public Access, State Ombudsman Citizens' Aide. (60 minutes)


2.  Examination of the importance of historical records / permanent records and the methods for preserving them.  This section will be taught by Dr. Melanie Sturgeon, State Archivist, Archives and Records Management Branch. (50 minutes)


3. We will discuss the creation, interpretation, modification and use of records retention and disposition schedules.  Record series, retention periods, and record series “cutoffs” are explained, along with procedures for destroying records.  We will also include a section on Electronic Records Management for State and Local Governments, since lectronic records are creating new challenges for custodians of public records.  This section will be taught by Jerry Lucente-Kirkpatrick, Records Analyst, Archives and Records Management. (90 minutes)
