Volunteer Opportunities

Please consider contributing your time for long and short-term projects that will benefit AzLA Divisions, Committees, Interest Groups, and all Arizona library staff. Volunteer positions range in scope and time requirement, and will be updated as new opportunities arise.

 AzLA Southern Arizona Representative

  • The Southern Arizona Regional representative is a voting member of the AzLA Board. This position is the liaison for all AzLA members in Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz, & Yuma Counties, bringing topics of discussion and important issues to the attention of the AzLA Board. Interaction with your regional members can be fun (bowling, happy hours, etc..) or straightforward (emails, phone calls).

Time Commitment

  • The term for the Southern Arizona Regional representative is two (2) years in length, commencing at the conclusion of the Annual Conference in October.

 Web & Social Media Committee Chair or Co-Chair

  • The Web & Social Media Committee is seeking a new Chair or Co-Chair. The WSMC is charged with developing best practices and polices regarding AzLA's web & social media, as well as managing a team of volunteer social media content managers to update AzLA's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Time Commitment

  • AzLA Bylaws - Section 4, Paragraph H: "Chairs of Standing Committees and those of the specified Sub-Committees shall be appointed for a term of one (1) year commencing at the conclusion of the Annual Conference. If the practice for the Committee or Sub-Committee is to have CoChairs, then said Co-Chairs have staggered two (2) year terms."
    Currently WSMC has one Chair, however applicants interested in Co-Chair roles are welcome!

 Social Media Content Manager

  • The Web & Social Media Committee is seeking a social media content manager to update AzLA's Facebook and Twitter accounts, with periodic updates to our LinkedIn Group page and uploads to our Flickr page. Those with social media, graphic creation, and writing skills are preferred.

Time Commitment

  • Membership on the AzLA Web & Social Networking Committee is usually a year long term, however we are open to students interested in pursing semester long opportunities (internship or otherwise) as well.

 Vendor Relations Representative

  • Do you have a professional relationship with a business or vendor? If so, we can use your help! The AzLA Executive Board is currently looking for AzLA members to help contact (via phone or email) potential vendors/businesses for sponsorship opportunities for the AzLA 2017 Annual Conference in Mesa, Oct. 25th-27th. We already have some sponsorships, but we need more, and the sooner the better! Please contact me if you are able to assist the organization in this manner!

Time Commitment

  • Whatever time you can give

 Committee Member or Outreach Assistance

Marketing and Advocacy Committee | Contact: Michael Schor

  • Assist with the development of marketing materials and plans to promote the association benefits to members and non-members.
  • Help with outreach efforts; in particular the Tucson Festival of Books.

Time Commitment

  • Monthly meetings (usually 2nd Fridays from 9-11am, virtual or in-person) and some limited time based on projects and outreach efforts.
  • Your participation is based on your skills and availability.


Grand Canyon Reader Award Committee | Contact: Kerrlita Westrick & Shirley Berow

Simply read a selection of books, make comments and meet with the committee once or twice a year to make final selections.

Time Commitment

It depends on how many books you chose to read and which committee you are on. For the picture book committee it is probably about 5-6 hours and for the teen committee it is probably 30-40 hours.
