March 2021 – What’s New for You in Professional Development

Program Description:

The older adult population is growing and will continue to grow for the next several decades. They are a diverse group with a variety of needs which may keep them from visiting the library. The Covid-19 pandemic has kept many people at home but for some older adults this never changed and in some cases, many may have become more isolated. Phillis will discuss who the older adult population is and what their needs are as well as how to work with older adults. She will share ways to partner with other agencies in the community and programs from around the country that have been successful. Learn how to adapt programs when librarians are not able to visit older adult facilities.

Presenter Bio:

Phyllis Goodman is a retired librarian who has worked more than twenty-five years in public library services and education.  Ms. Goodman took a special interest in senior programming in her last position when asked to provide programming for seniors who were not able to visit the library.  Finding programming resources scarce, she created many fun and educational programs to stimulate and inform older adults.  She was involved in staff training, the reader’s advisory committee, and wrote for the library blog.  In 2020 her first book, On the Go with Senior Services:  Library Programs for Any Time and Any Place was published by ABC-CLIO.
