The Mission Statement of AzLA

The mission of the Arizona Library Association shall be to promote library service and librarianship in libraries of all types in the state of Arizona.

AzLA Accomplishments

  • Developed statewide materials purchasing contracts
  • Lobbied and obtained the end of use taxes on books
  • Provide continuing education credits for school librarians
  • Sponsor the Horner Fellowship
  • Provide regional forums to obtain statewide input to the association
  • Nominate young librarians to the Snowbird Leadership Institute

Title: The Many Benefits of OER & Joining Our Statewide OERizona Network

Webinar Description:

In this webinar, presenters from across the state of Arizona will share how free, customizable open educational resources (OER) benefit students, instructors, and lifelong learners. We'll explain how to find and use OER. We'll also share how to become involved in the statewide OERizona Network and benefit from its resources, including an OER Commons Hub.

Presenters:

Cheryl Casey is the Open Education Librarian at the University of Arizona Libraries, where she has led open educational resource (OER) initiatives since 2014. She is a trainer for the Open Education Network (OEN) and will be an instructor for the 2025 Certificate in Open Education Librarianship. 

Carrie Meakins-Farnsworth, an OER Librarian, holds an MIRLS from the University of Arizona and comes with a background in K-12 education. Her current librarian superpowers are OER faculty outreach and curating OER resources. She is a member of the Yavapai College Library Instruction Team.

Karalyn Ostler is a STEM Librarian at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. She provides reference and research support to students, faculty, and researchers in the physical sciences. Karalyn earned a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Washington.
